Like what seems to be far too many people in her niche, her first memory is of waking up with the varied superheroes around her. Other than her, she can count Cain and her new kid sister as having similar origins.
Angie doesnt count, because she can remember more than the clich burning forest or burningwell, whatever.
Her name is Vanessa, Vanessa Lowgun properly. Shes technically adopted by super-genius and flake Doctor Kenneth Lowgun, but in fact lives with the other members of the Team Elite who cant get normal apartments in the big loft they share near Lowgun Labs.
She is a shape-shifter. Her natural form is a viscous gold pudding, but she prefers the form of a gold skinned girl in her late teens, with tendriled black hair. Shes traded in her normal jumpsuit for shorts and a t-shirt, and is looking out the side of the bus carrying her towards the normal summer festivities: Or, as its normally called, Camp.
Next to her, Rae, her sister by adoption, stares blankly at the back of the seat in front of them. In truth, shes doing a self-diagnostic of her nanites.
Anything to get her through the trip.
Across the row from her, Magni has claimed the entire two-seater for himself, spread out and snoring. In front of him, Mari grumbles and growls as she tries to distract herself on her gameboy, while Magnis foot is hung over the back of her seat.
Somehow, that may be a Norse God sign of affection.
The bus stops and the door opens. Peering out her window, Vanessa sees that the bus is currently in the middle of nowhere, with neither stop signs nor any actual designation for this being a bus stop, past the fact that someones waiting.
Stretching her neck past Raenar, she looks into the aisle as the newest passenger walks on, a single bag hefted over his shoulder.
About five and a half feet tall, overweight, black hair coming to spiked around his forehead with red tips. He has several marks on his face which may be from piercings, around the eyes and ears and nose, and is dressed completely in black.
He looks around, not moving as the bus starts again, looking round for empty seats orsomething else.
        So he says, Full bus.
His left eye glows red, and an overhead bay opens and his bag flies into it.
No powers on the bus, Mari snaps.
He looks at her, shrugs, and sits down next to her, his eye glowing again and removing Magnis foot from the back of the seat. The norse god doesnt bother waking up.
        Didnt know, he says,
Mari shuts her gameboy, shrugs, and sighs.
First time to camp, she asks.
        Yeahwhat about it?
You just didnt know the rules. No biggie. Me and my friends are regulars. Girl stretching her neck like a giraffe? Thats Shift. Next to her is Rae. In the back is Firestarter and some newbies. The rest just have powers.
Oh. Okay. What, you mean like superheroes?
        Only a few.
She extends her hand to the boy.
Names Mari, she says with a smile, Mari Cole. Whats yours?
Michael, the boy responds, Michael Smith. SoI just heard about the camp, reallyyou mean everyone can do stuff like me
The two continue talking for much of the rest of the trip. Leaning back in her seat, Vanessa grins. This couldnt have been more perfect-now she just has to spring her plan when they get there
